Why Donate to Médecins Sans Frontières
Médecins Sans Frontières relies on public support for two vital reasons :
- To ensure the freedom to provide humanitarian assistance whenever and wherever it is needed.
- To remain independent from political, religious and economic interests.
About Médecins Sans Frontières
The Australian section of Médecins Sans Frontières was established in 1994, and it is currently solely funded by private donors. The world organisation was founded in 1971 as one of the first non-governmental organisations to provide urgently needed medical assistance. Formed by a small group of doctors and journalists, they have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its pioneering humanitarian work.
From it's humble beginnings, the organisation now has offices in nineteen countries, with field teams of more than 27,000 doctors, nurses, epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, mental health professionals, logistics experts, water and sanitation engineers, administrators and a host of other professional and non-professional support staff working in over sixty countries around the world.
They have worked in countries through years of indiscriminate violence, providing the ability to transport and deliver food and medical aid to people in increasingly difficult and highly insecure environments who might otherwise have none. Public contributions are absolutely vital to allow the valuable work of Médecins Sans Frontières Field Staff to continue. By making a regular monthly donation, your support guarantees a regular income, one of the most effective ways to plan operations and respond quickly to emergencies while remaining flexible and independent.
