Nine Year Old Wins HTC Prize

Nine year old Scott Guerini is a truly inspirational boy after managing to achieve his dream of raising $100,000 for sick children as the first winner of HTC’s ‘One Day I Will’ campaign. Scott managed to stand out from a remarkable pool of applicants as a result of his incredible achievements, selfless attitude and unbreakable will.

Inspiration for Australians

HTC launched the ‘One Day I Will’ program to inspire ordinary Australians to go after their life goals and dreams with an emphasis on allowing people to get more from every day. The winner is chosen from thousands of entries which were amazing and moving. Scott will receive a $25,000 cash prize which will go towards his goal of raising $100,000 for Telethon Kids Institute before he turns ten years old..

“When I heard I had won I was completely shocked”, said Scott. “It made me speechless and that never happens because I’m a chatterbox!! When it sunk in I kept saying ‘wait, what, I won?’ I just couldn’t believe it. I felt so happy and excited when I realised it meant I will reach my One Day I Will goal of raising $100,000 for Telethon by the time I’m 10. I am so relieved I have made it!! It means I will help a lot of sick kids and babies. That means everything to me.”

Started fund raising early on

Scott started his fundraising very early in life because he wanted to make a difference in sick children’s lives by helping them. When he was just 4 years old he challenged himself to walk 25km to the nearest town because at the time he thought it was the hardest thing he could do. Unsatisfied with that achievement, Scott undertook the challenge every year until he was 7. From there the next step was a 41km walk which was followed by the ultimate challenge of running a marathon which he has done for the past couple of years.

“Scott is the embodiment of everything the ‘One Day I Will’ campaign set out to achieve, uncovering inspiring and spectacular stories and achievements of everyday people doing extraordinary things. We have been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of inspirational entries we have received. It is particularly touching to see how many people just want to make a difference in the lives of others and create a better world. These are exactly the reasons why we started the campaign, enabling people to live a brilliant life.” HTC Australia and New Zealand Country Manager Ben Hodgson said.
