Plan International Launch New Campaign Around Australia

Plan International Australia has joined forces with SchoolAid to produce the online campaign ‘Because I am a Girl’. The initiative is to highlight to Australian primary school children the discrimination girls are faced with in developing countries, and how they can help make a difference. Many children in poorer countries have to miss out on their education, as they are forced to to work for little or no money.

The campaign’s interactive website is being used in schools to help pupils engage and understand the plight of other children around the globe who are not so fortunate. The website features stories and videos just like the one above, and helps to highlight how education can help alleviate many of the difficulties faced by children across the world.

Chief executive of Plan International Australia, Ian Wishart, said –

Investing in girls can literally lift entire nations out of poverty. The unique power to bring about social change extends to boys and girls here in Australia, so Plan is inviting them to become part of a global movement for girls’ rights everywhere. We’re delighted to be working with SchoolAid to encourage Australian teachers and students to explore issues affecting girls in classrooms across Australia.
