Soccer Aid 2012 with UNICEF Australia

Well it’s nearly that time of the year again.. Soccer Aid! The game will be played at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday 13th October 2012 to a packed arena of fans who will be cheering on their favourite team of celebrities, supporters, and of course, footballers.

UNICEF Australia has helped to hand pick a great selection players, including –

  • Ex-league player Hazem El Masri
  • Rugby great Nick Farr Jones
  • Ex Man United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich
  • MasterChef contestant Adam Liaw

Liaw follows in the footsteps of Gordon Ramsey, who is one of the main players in the UNICEF Soccer Aid matches over in the UK. Unfortunately, with no sporting credentials to his name, Liaw is quoted as saying he just hopes he ‘survives the game’!

The Soccer Aid game will before the first home lead game of Sydney FC, who will be parading their new marquee signing, Alessandro Del Piero, against the Newcastle Jets. These two games also coincide with the corporate seven-a-side competition that is being played at Centennial Park the day before on Friday 12th October 2012.

UNICEF Australia ambassador, Brett Emerton, said –

Everyday 67 million children around the world miss out on an education. Everyday 19,000 children die from preventable causes. We can change this. Join me and take part in Football Aid in 2012 supporting UNICEF projects around the world. Together we can help change the game for children living in poverty around the world.

Great to see celebrities and footballers getting together to help raise much needed funds for this amazing cause. If you would like to learn more about the work of UNICEF Australia or how you can make a donation, check out our dedicated charity page for more information on how you can help.
